On this last day of 2021, we have a few plans to share. Today, we are announcing a partnership with the dWeb Foundation on the integration of the decentralized blockchain domain name system, Handshake. Handshake is a decentralized, unauthorized naming system that disintermediates the old guard of CAs operating in the traditional DNS namespace hierarchy by providing a more advanced, secure, open, and accountable network. The integration will be operational in the first half of 2022.
This partnership is the last step in our mission to generalize crypto and web3 by offering our users maximum choice through access to the largest number of blockchains and protocols. Through its products, Opera pursues its goal of providing the best user experience and web3 integration.
“For the Opera, aAs a web3 compatible browser, it is essential to provide access to decentralized domains and domain naming solutions. That’s why we’re excited to partner with the dWeb Foundation and integrate Handshake to give our users access to web3 domains they really can own.“said Susie Batt, head of the crypto ecosystem at Opera.
“A truly democratized Web 3.0 can only be fully realized once we have moved to a new infrastructure. The handshake is an essential piece of the puzzle for making this paradigm shift. Opera, pioneering the way forward as the first major browser to support HNS, is a testament to its forward thinking vision and positioning in the browser space. This partnership marks just the start of the work that awaits us to build a decentralized web“said Chjango Unchained, executive director of the dWeb Foundation.

About the handshake
Handshake is a public blockchain that acts as a decentralized, unauthorized naming system that disintermediates the old guard of certification authorities operating in the traditional hierarchy of DNS namespaces by providing a more advanced, secure, open, and accountable network.
