1 Numbers include domain names in the country code .tk TLD (ccTLD). .tk is a ccTLD that provides free domain names to individuals and businesses. Revenue is generated by monetizing expired domain names. Domain names that are no longer used by the holder or have expired are taken over by the registry and the residual traffic is sold to advertising agencies. As such, there are no deleted .tk domain names. The .tk area reflected here is based on data for the fourth quarter of 2020, which is the most recent data available.

2 Generic TLD, ngTLD and ccTLD data cited in the brief: (i) include internationalized domain names (IDN) ccTLDs, (ii) are an estimate at the time of brief preparation and (iii) are subject to change as complete data is received. Some figures in memory may reflect standard rounding.

3 The domain name base is the active zone plus the number of domain names that are registered but not configured for use in the respective TLD zone file plus the number of domain names that are in a client retention state or server. The registration numbers for .com and .net domain names are those shown in Verisign’s latest SEC filings.
