Ambarella launches the SoC family of AI domain controllers for

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 04, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMBA), a vision AI silicon company, today announced at CES the CV3 AI family of domain controllers. This fully scalable and energy-efficient CVflow® family of SoCs delivers the highest AI processing performance in the automotive industry, up to 500 eTOPS, which is a 42-fold increase over the previous automotive family of Ambarella. With up to 16 Arm® Cortex-A78AE processor cores, the CV3 delivers up to 30 times more processor performance than the previous generation to support autonomous vehicle (AV) software applications. This family enables single-chip centralized processing for multi-sensor perception, including high-resolution vision, radar, ultrasound and lidar, as well as deep fusion for multiple sensor modalities and AV path planning. The result is robust ADAS and L2 + Autonomous Driving (AD) systems up to Level 4 with higher levels of environmental awareness in challenging lighting, weather and driving conditions for the driver to view and the perception of the machine.

“With our new family of CV3 AI domain controllers, we are now able to run the full ADAS and AD stack with a single chip, while delivering unprecedented performance and energy efficiency,” said Fermi Wang, president and CEO of Ambarella. “With improvements to our on-chip ISP, as well as simultaneous radar processing that can take advantage of our Oculii adaptive AI algorithms, Ambarella is helping the automotive industry unlock more precise levels of perception in all environmental conditions. to realize the promise of autonomous driving. “

The CV3 marks the start of Ambarella’s next-generation CVflow architecture, which continues the company’s algorithm-driven design philosophy. This led to the development of the on-chip Neural Vector Processor (NVP), with up to 500 eTOPS of AI computing, industry-leading energy efficiency, and support for the latest advancements in neural network (NN) inference. NVP is also enhanced to run advanced radar perception software, such as the Oculii adaptive AI software algorithms. This is complemented by a new general floating point vector processor (GVP) designed to offload the traditional computer vision and radar processing of NVP engines, and intensive floating point algorithms of CPU Arms.

The unique hardware scalability of the CV3 family allows automakers to unify their software stacks across their retail portfolios, while reducing the cost and complexity of software development. This scalability responds directly to the growing complexity of automotive software by providing an alternative to the fragmented ADAS SoC offerings of competitors. In addition, the CV3 family accelerates development times for automakers while simplifying the deployment of new features by providing leeway for a single and robust OTA (over-the-air) update implementation.

This new family offers several options to meet the product strategies of OEMs and Tier 1 manufacturers, from its low-power SoCs for regulatory-class forward-facing cameras, to high-end SoCs for fully driving. automated level 4. This new family also supports central and zonal architectures. In addition to covering the entire AD stack, the CV3 can simultaneously handle in-cab sensing applications, including driver and occupant monitoring. Ambarella’s full line of Perception AI SoCs are ideally positioned to support the full range of visualization, recording, sensing and trajectory planning applications, from basic ADAS to AV L4 . This means that automakers no longer need to develop different software stacks for their entry-level, mid-range and high-end vehicles as they can use Ambarella’s unified CVflow platform on all models. , thus reducing engineering costs while allowing faster responses to market trends.

Leveraging a comprehensive set of mature software tools and a robust SDK, Ambarella’s flexible CVflow AI platform offers customers an unprecedented opportunity to innovate and differentiate their products in the market. To further extend this capability, Ambarella has developed a large ecosystem of software partners for the CVflow platform, working closely with them to port and optimize their applications.

The CV3 also incorporates Ambarella’s next-generation Internet service provider, extending the company’s lead in image signal processing quality. By simultaneously supporting up to 12 physical cameras or 20 virtual cameras, a single CV3 can process the entire sensor suite, which for typical L2 + deployments includes 10 cameras, five radar modules, and numerous ultrasonic sensors. In addition, the more efficient stereo and dense optical flow engines provide greater depth and better perception of movement.

Additional features of the new CV3 central domain controller family include:

  • Automotive GPU for applications such as 3D surround view rendering
  • Hardware security module, allowing isolation of different domains and secure software provisioning
  • High-speed PCIe interfaces for ultra-low latency communications
  • Processing slack for OTA software updates and testing software stacks in phantom mode
