Ambarella launches the SoC family of AI domain controllers for

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 04, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMBA), a vision AI silicon company, today announced at CES the CV3 AI family of domain controllers. This fully scalable and energy-efficient CVflow® family of SoCs delivers the highest AI processing performance in the automotive industry, up to 500 eTOPS, which is a 42-fold increase over the previous automotive family of Ambarella. With up to 16 Arm® Cortex-A78AE processor cores, the CV3 delivers up to 30 times more processor performance than the previous generation to support autonomous vehicle (AV) software applications. This family enables single-chip centralized processing for multi-sensor perception, including high-resolution vision, radar, ultrasound and lidar, as well as deep fusion for multiple sensor modalities and AV path planning. The result is robust ADAS and L2 + Autonomous Driving (AD) systems up to Level 4 with higher levels of environmental awareness in challenging lighting, weather and driving conditions for the driver to view and the perception of the machine.

The CV3 marks the start of Ambarella’s next-generation CVflow architecture, which continues the company’s algorithm-driven design philosophy. This led to the development of the on-chip Neural Vector Processor (NVP), with up to 500 eTOPS of AI computing, industry-leading energy efficiency, and support for the latest advancements in neural network (NN) inference. NVP is also enhanced to run advanced radar perception software, such as the Oculii adaptive AI software algorithms. This is complemented by a new general floating point vector processor (GVP) designed to offload the traditional computer vision and radar processing of NVP engines, and intensive floating point algorithms of CPU Arms.

The unique hardware scalability of the CV3 family allows automakers to unify their software stacks across their retail portfolios, while reducing the cost and complexity of software development.
